Soul Retrieval
A soul retrieval is a healing
tool whereby the practitioner accesses and returns "soul parts" that have broken
off from the person due to stress, trauma, shock, death of a loved one, abuse,
illness etc. Often people have heard things like, "She's never been the
same after the death of her loved one." or "He seems to be lost since the divorce". It's
even common to hear of such loss in love songs like, 'I've lost a piece of my
soul.' In fact, any event in which someone says," I was never the same
after that happened," is a possible cause of soul loss.
Have you ever experienced
something so stressful, sad, or scary that you've wanted to run and hide? This
is often what happens when the person is faced with something overwhelming
and yet the body is unable to run and hide. In order to get away
from the situation, the soul can literally fragment and leave the body,
which is a survival technique.
Psychologists refer
to this phenomenon as dissociation. It's not uncommon for therapists
to hear that a person who was just in a serious accident found herself
hovering above the accident scene. The same is true for people
who have been abused. People often report watching the abuse take
place from another part of the room as if they were floating above their
body.
Soul retrieval is a
shamanic technique in which the soul part is healed and returned back
to the person. What returns are the positive attributes that were
lost during that event such as joy, self-confidence, courage, playfulness,
and increase in energy, belief in one's own lovability and a desire to
live life to the fullest to name a few. Memories may also return
that will serve you and be helpful in some way. Soul retrieval
has been an effective method to treat: depression, memory loss, addictions,
chronic illness, grief and apathy.
Do you feel like a
part of you has been missing in spite of your self-development and on-going
personal growth process? Soul retrievals are usually done as part
of an individual's growth process and should not be looked upon as a
quick fix for all of life's challenges.
Questions to consider
prior to having a soul retrieval are:
- What do you hope to accomplish
and why do you want a soul retrieval?
- Are you ready to experience
change in your life?
- Do you have a support system to discuss your
soul retrieval with?
